Snowflake Festival 2010
February 12th - February 28th

Chosen as a “Top Ten Winter Event”
by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce

Join us for some winter fun with the 2010 Lyndon/Burke Snowflake Festival. Our area will be hosting a number of wonderful events, including:

• Pancake Breakfast at the Methodist Church
• the 2nd Annual Chowdah Fest (download Chowdah Fest Rules and Chowdah Fest Entry Form)
• Fiddling by the Fireplace
• Don Beattie Day
• Snowflake Origami and Special Story Times at the Cobleigh Library
• Up/down Throw Down at the Lyndon Outing Club

Lyndon Outing Club Hours:
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Nights- Ski and ride under the lights! 6pm to 9 pm.
Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 4 pm.
Check the Outing Club Website: www.skilyndon.com for special hours during school vacation. (Events at the Outing Club are dependent on snow conditions.)


Friday, February 12:
· Quilt Show at Cobleigh Library (will be up for the duration of the Festival)
· There will be a Winter Photography Contest displayed and judged by the fine folks at Image North Photography on Depot Street. More details to follow. Cash Prizes in the Adult and Children’s Category.
· Burke Mountain “Free Heeler Friday”. Tele-skiers ski for a full day for $30.



Saturday, February 13th:
· Pancake Breakfast at United Methodist Church, Church St. Lyndonville. 7 am to 11 am. By donation.

· Lyndon SnoCruisers-NEK Drag Race. Route 114N, Lyndonville. Races start at 10:30 am. E-Mail: lyndonsnocruisers@hotmail.com. Or www.lyndonsnocruisers.com

· Craft-making at the Village Kids Boutique, anytime from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Kids can choose from a wooden butterfly or treasure chest, teddy bear or piggy bank, princess tiara, bookmarks and other choices. There will be a $6.00 charge for materials. · 12-4pm. Ski and Ride at Lyndon Outing Club.

· 4 pm to 6 pm. “2nd Annual Chowdah Fest” at Lyndon Outing Club. Compete for Cash Prizes! (Sponsored by Lyndon Area Chamber). First Place Prize, $75, Second Place Prize-$50, People’s Choice Prize-$25. For $5, taste all the chowders in the contest and sign up for a door prize to win tickets to an Alicia Keys concert in Montreal on February 28th and hotel accommodations! Proceeds to benefit Lyndon Outing Club. For details about the contest, please call Shirley Banks at 626-3833. Entry forms and contest rules will be available at the Cobleigh Public Library or at Moonlight Inn Vermont, the big blue house at 801 Center Street in Lyndonville. Please register by Friday, February 12th.

· 6 pm to 9 pm- Listen to area fiddlers by the cozy fireplace at the Outing Club and also enjoy skiing and riding under the lights!

· Burke Mountain Music Series presents “Starline Rhythm Boys” at the Bear Den Lounge, 8 pm. $5 cover, ages 21+
· 5 pm to 8 pm. BINGO! At the Darling Inn. 626-8700



Sunday, February 14th:
· 10 am to 2 pm. Valentine’s Day Brunch Buffet at the Tamarack Grill. Delicious all you can eat brunch buffet with omelet station, Bloody Mary Bar, yummy desserts, and more! $19.95 per person, $9.95 children 11 and under.

· 12-4 pm- “Don Beattie Day” at Lyndon Outing Club. The Beattie family is sponsoring FREE skiing for everyone! Bring memorabilia and old photos to share. Fireside Photos with your Sweetheart are available in the lodge.

· Burke Mountain: Carter Country Sledding Hill 5 pm to 8 pm, ages 5 and up. $5 per person. Helmet rentals $5. Participants may use their own sled and helmet.



Monday, February 15th:
· Burke Mountain-Carter Country Sledding Hill. 5-8 pm, ages 5 and up. $5 per person. Helmet rentals $5. Participants may use their own sled and helmet.



Tuesday, February 16th:
· 10 am. Cobleigh Public Library. Baby/Toddler Story Time. BEACH PARTY for kids 0 -3 years and their families and caregivers.
· Snowflake Origami at the Cobleigh Public Library at 3:15 pm. Geared to 4th-8th Graders.
· Burke Mountain. Carter Country Sledding Hill. 5pm-8pm, ages 5 and up. $5 per person. Helmet rentals $5. Participants may use their own sled and helmet.



Wednesday, February 17th:
· 10 am- BEACH PARTY Story Hour at the Cobleigh Library. Geared toward children 3-5 years old and their families and caregivers.
· Burke Mountain-Pizza Night at the Bear Den Lounge 5-8 pm. Robert’s famous gourmet pizza and Shipyard beer specials and giveaways.
· Burke Mountain-Carter Country Sledding Hill 5-8 pm, ages 5 and up. $5 per person. Helmet rentals $5. Participants may use their own sled and helmet.



Thursday, February 18th:
· Burke Mountain. Carter Country Sledding Hill 5-8 pm, ages 5 and up. $5 per person. Helmet rentals $5. Participants may use their own sled and helmet.



Friday, February 19th:
· Lyndon Outing Club-6-9 pm. Movie Night in the lodge. Free popcorn. Skiing and riding under the lights.



Saturday, February 20th:
· 2 pm. Lyndon Outing Club. Crash Test Dummy Race
· 5 pm Northeast Kingdom Skating Club Ice Show “This Town” at the Fenton Chester Arena. Admission by Donation.
· 6 pm to 9 pm- Night skiing and riding at Lyndon Outing Club.



Sunday, February 21st:
· 10 am to 4 pm. Lyndon Outing Club’s 2nd Annual Up/Down Throwdown Competition. $25 Entry Fee. Prizes. Proceeds benefit Lyndon Outing Club.
· Noon to 4 pm Lyndon Outing Club Ski/Ride open to the public.



Monday, February 22nd:
· Wildflower Inn on Darling Hill. 3 pm to 5 pm. Sledding, Snowman Making, Hot Chocolate and Bonfire. FREE Family Fun!



Tuesday, February 23rd:
· Burke Mountain- “Silver Streaker Day”. $20 full day lift tickets for skiers and riders age 55 and older, complimentary coffee in the Kingdom Café. Positive ID required.
· 10 am-Cobleigh Public Library. Baby/Toddler Story time-Pajama Party! Geared to 0-3 year olds and their families and caregivers.
· 3:15 pm-Also at the Cobleigh, Snowflake Origami with the Cobleigh Library Origami Group (CLOG) Geared to 4th to 8th graders.
· Noon to 5-“Knit In” at the Cobleigh Library. Bring your projects and join other knitters. How many feet of scarf can we knit today?



Wednesday, February 24th:
· 10 am-Cobleigh Public Library. Preschool Story Hour-Pajama Party! Geared to the 3-5 year old set and their families and caregivers.
· 6-9 pm. Lyndon Outing Club. Family Night. Open Fire, Free wienie roast, cocoa and s’mores for everyone. Night ski and ride for only $5 for all ages!!

Entry deadline in for the Winter Photography Contest to Image North Photography on Depot Street. Photos received after this date will not be included in the judging. There will be two categories: Adult and Children Ages 14 and Under. The photos may be of any size, but they need to be in a frame. Entries will NOT be judged by the frame, but by the photography that best typifies Winter in the Northeast Kingdom. Forms will be available at Image North Photography on Depot Street for participants to sign that give permission for the photos to be displayed and also for the winning pictures to be posted to the www.lyndonvermont.com website. The best photo in each category will receive a $50 prize.


Thursday, February 25th:
· February 25th, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. - Free Lecture and Discussion about the Roosevelt Presidency Please join Jay Craven, Filmmaker, Marlboro College Professor and Kingdom County Productions Artistic Director for a lecture and discussion about the Roosevelt presidency and its relevance and impact on public events 70 years later. Held at the Cobleigh Library.
· Burke Mountain-College Carload Daze! Ski and Ride for $40 a Carload! Some restrictions apply.



Friday, February 26th:
· Free Heeler Friday at Burke Mountain! Tele-skiers ski full day for $30.
· Burke Mountain Sled Dog Dash Benefit Auction. www.sleddogdash.com. 100% of the profits from this event go back to the local community. If you would like to volunteer to help out with the Sled Dog Dash, please call Hannah Collins at 802-626-7395 or email her: hcollins@skiburke.com.
· 6 pm to 9 pm-Lyndon Outing Club. Movie Night in the Lodge; free popcorn. Ski/Ride under the lights!



Saturday, February 27th:
· 9 am to 4 pm Sled Dog Dash! Burke Mountain. Over 100 teams compete. Get the full details at: www.sleddogdash.com
· 10:45 am-Lyndon Snocruisers NEK Drag Race. Route 114N, Lyndonville. www.lyndonsnocruisers.com
· Noon to 4 pm and 6pm to 9 pm-Lyndon Outing Club. Mardi Gras Day. King Cake, Jazz and Jambalaya.



Sunday, February 28th:
· 9 am to 4 pm Burke Mountain-Sled Dog Dash.
· 1 pm Lyndon Outing Club. Registration for the Corporate Cup Race.
· 2 pm-Lyndon Outing Club-Corporate Cup Race, pre-registration required.
· 2-4 pm-Lyndon Outing Club. FREE Horse drawn Wagon Rides sponsored by the Lyndon Area Chamber of Commerce.
· 5 pm FREE Spaghetti Dinner for the Public at the Outing Club. 50/50 Raffle.
· Dark-Torchlight Parade; Pre-registration required. Participants need to be able to ski the LOC face independently and without poles. Parents will need to sign a permission slip.
